New links !!

Hey fellow bloggers!

I put up a few new links about Brownfield reclamation and redevelopment that will help explain what a brown field site is, and why brownfield development needs to be considered as a tool to help revitalize the North Kamloops community. I also posted a couple links pertaining to the O.C.P.  "Official community plan", as well as a study done about the North Kamloops community. The study, investigates local flood plains, existing infrastructure and community hurdles, that will all need to be addressed during this project.

  1. Hey Darren, I've heard that brownfield sites have restrictions that don't allow development of the site until years after the original buildings/pumps, etc. are taken out. Is this true, or are there ways to purify, so to speak, the earth and develop the land sooner?

  2. From what I have heard, The process all depends on the soil conditions. Once the lot has been stripped and tanks have been removed a soils review is done. After the soils review has been completed the soil is now ready to be reclaim which could result in contaminated soil removal and replacement. Ive heard about this ten year guideline, but I think thats the time it would take for the soil to purify it self naturally to a certain level. Part of my research project is to determine if it is feasible to remediate the site or just let time do its thing. Im always looking for information on this area of my project though, so if you come across anything please feel free to share. Good question Paul, hopefully I can start to get some more answers regaurding, which could be the biggest problem with brownfield reclamation.

  4. I know that it generally takes 5 years to reclaim a site using organic materials once it has been contaminated. A few years ago I did a land reclamation proposal for tailing ponds at a mine. Soil samples are tested and from there you decide on what type of top soil and plants will clean and balance out the toxin levels. If you want I have a sample plant list for land reclamation and what each plant neutralizes.

  5. That would be amazing Itel, I could deffinately use that as a reference. I knew certain plants helped but I had no idea which.
    Thanks
